About

Shae Anderson is a painter working primarily in watercolor and oil whose practice examines the human condition through both the figure and still life. Combining elements of realism and abstraction, her work engages themes of vulnerability, sensuality, grief, and emotional interiority, using bodies and objects alike as vessels for psychological and affective states.

Ranging from intimate watercolor studies to large-scale oil paintings, Anderson’s compositions emphasize gesture, presence, and material immediacy. Whether depicting figures or inanimate forms, her work resists fixed narratives in favor of ambiguity and emotional resonance. Drawing from personal relationships and lived experience, Anderson explores the intersections of strength and fragility, embodiment and absence, allowing the paintings to register feeling rather than description.

Born in 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Anderson spent her formative years between Utah and Pennsylvania. She studied illustration at Utah Valley University and contributed to the stained glass installation Roots of Knowledge before pursuing an independent artistic path. Based in Salt Lake City since 2015, she maintains an active watercolor and oil painting practice.
